I am Lenore Jackson, a 22-year US Air Force retired combat veteran who has proudly called South Carolina home for the past two decades. As a seasoned military leader, I know what it takes to strategize, mobilize, and achieve goals. Now, I am ready to bring that same level of dedication and commitment to serving the people of South Carolina.
As we look to the future, it is clear that our state needs exceptional and enterprising trailblazers ready to make real change. My military background makes me uniquely equipped to be one of those leaders. I understand the importance of teamwork, communication, and effective decision-making. I am ready to apply those skills to our state's challenges, from improving education and healthcare to creating new economic opportunities and protecting our natural resources.
The military is known for empowering incredible leaders to execute its mission, and I am ready to continue that tradition in South Carolina. I am excited to work with people from all walks of life to move our state upward and forward. So we can build a stronger, more prosperous, and more equitable South Carolina for all.
*A Women's Right To Choose" - We must recognize women in South Carolina have the right to decide about their bodies. It is not the place of politicians or anyone else to interfere with a woman's healthcare decisions. Access to safe and legal reproductive healthcare is a fundamental human right, and denying women across the State the ability to make choices about their bodies is both oppressive and unjust. We must trust the women of SC and their doctors to make the best decisions for their health and well-being. It's time to stop playing politics with women's lives and start respecting their autonomy and agency.
*The 2nd Amendment and Safe Communities" - Responsible gun control laws do not infringe on our Second Amendment rights; they help us enjoy our right to bear arms while keeping ourselves and our communities safe. South Carolinians need responsible gun control laws that protect our communities and keep guns out of the hands of those who should not have them. Sumter and the surrounding counties have buried too many young people due to this senseless violence. In addition, extensive background checks are essential as they help ensure that those with a history of violence or mental illness do not have access to firearms. In South Carolina, we can have both our Second Amendment rights and safety, and we must work together to find solutions that balance these two critical values. It's time to put aside political posturing and come together to enact common-sense gun control measures that protect our communities while respecting our Second Amendment rights.
*The Backbone of Quality Education" - Investing in our public schools is a moral obligation and an investment in our future. We must prioritize funding for education and work together to ensure our children receive the quality education they deserve. It's time to put our children in South Carolina first and invest in their future by providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed. This means ensuring South Carolina's public schools have adequate funding, qualified teachers, and safe environments. Qualified teachers are the backbone of our education system, and we must ensure that they are well-compensated and provided with the support and resources needed to succeed. This includes access to professional development opportunities and mental health resources to help them cope with the challenges of teaching. In addition, safety in our School Districts is critical to ensuring our children learn and thrive. We must invest in sensible measures to prevent and respond to incidents of violence and provide resources for mental health support for students who may be struggling. We cannot turn our schools into mini prisons.
*Health Care Is Not Either Or" - We must work together to ensure that everyone in South Carolina can live a healthy and fulfilling life, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status. This means fighting against systemic racism, discrimination, and inequality that may limit access to quality healthcare for specific groups. Many people in our country, still in rural South Carolina, face outrageous out-of-pocket costs for co-pays, making healthcare unaffordable and inaccessible. This is unacceptable, and we must take action to ensure that every person has access to affordable and high-quality healthcare.
